Peter Weru Kinyua – Biography, MP Mathira, Nyeri, Wife, Family, Wealth
Peter Weru Kinyua was born in Mathira, Nyeri County. He is the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency in Nyeri County.
He was elected to the National Assembly on a NARC party ticket in the Jubilee Coalition in March 2013.
His predecessors to the same seat are;
1963 – 1969 was Anderson Kangeri Wamuthenya on a KANU party (One-party system)
1969 – 1983 was Davidson Ngibuini Kuguru on a KANU party (One-party system)
1983 – 1988 was Eliud Matu Wamae on a KANU party (One-party system)
1988 – 1992 was Davidson Ngibuini Kuguru on a KANU party (One-party system)
1992 – 2002 was Eliud Matu Wamae on a Democratic Party ticket
2002 – 2007 was James Nderitu Gachagua on a NARC party ticket
2007 – 2012 was Ephraim Mwangi Maina on a Safina party ticket
In the National Assembly he is a member of Departmental Committee on Environment & Natural Resources from March 2013.
Peter Weru Kinyua has spoken 64 times in Parliament since 2013.
Peter Weru Kinyua injured in accident
In October 2014, Mathira MP Peter Weru was seriously injured in a road accident at the notorious Chania River bridge near Nyeri town after his vehicle collided head on with a pick-up vehicle.
One passenger who was in the pick up vehicle died on the spot while Peter Weru’s bodyguard and driver were treated at Outspan Hospital after the two vehicles collided on top of the bridge. The driver of a pick up owns a hardware in Nyeri town.
Peter Weru was heading to King’ong’o side from Nyeri town while the pick up was heading to town from Nanyuki side along Nyeri – Nanyuki highway when the two vehicles met head on.
Peter Weru who is said to have sustained injuries on one leg was transferred to a hospital in Nairobi. The wreckage of the MP’s Toyota VX V8 car and the pickup truck were towed to Nyeri Police Station.
Peter Weru Kinyua sued by Miriam Wairimu
In July 2015, the widow of the man who died after Peter Weru was involved in an accident in 2014 filed a suit in court asking for damages from Mathira MP Peter Weru whose vehicle was involved in an accident that led to the death of her husband.
Miriam Wairimu wanted the legislator to pay her general and special damages incurred following the demise of her husband.
Wairimu filed the suit at a court in Nyeri saying that both vehicles involved in the accident were being driven carelessly. She also wants the owner of the vehicle in which her husband was traveling in to be held accountable.
Explaining the reasons behind the suit, Wairimu said that her late husband was the sole provider for the family and since his death they have been struggling to make ends meet and she added that the situation has been made harder as a result of her unemployed status.
Peter Weru Kinyua and Martha Miano
In March 2016, Martha Miano an avid Facebook user was arraigned in court after she was accused of using abusive language in her posts towards a county government official and Rigathi Gachagua who is a brother to Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
Rigathi and James Kabiru (Director of Governors Press) filed a complaint against Ms Miano after they claimed she had launched personal attacks against them on Facebook.
Ms Miano was charged with misuse of telecommunication gadget then held without bail or bond for seven days to allow investigating officers to complete their inquiries. However Lawyer and Kiharu MP Irungu Kangata showed up at the Nyeri court and said he would defend her. She was granted bail.
Martha Miano is an employee of the Mathira Constituency Development fund, which is under Peter Weru. Hon. Weru and Mr Rigathi are known to have political differences over the implementation of development projects. Hon. Peter Weru is the current Mathira Constituency MP while Mr. Rigathi is an aspiring Mathira MP.
