This is how to check/get the released KCSE Exam Results 2023 Online and how to download the Result Slip for an individual and also for the whole School from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC Portal Login) website: https://results.knec.ac.ke/
On Monday, Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, took charge of unveiling the outcomes of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
A total of 899,453 candidates participated in the form four national examinations. This announcement was made at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret.
Here’s a summary of the key points:
Number of Candidates: A total of 899,453 candidates sat for the 2023 KCSE examinations.
Result Access Method: Candidates will no longer access their results through the SMS system. Instead, they can check their results on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website: https://results.knec.ac.ke/.
Abolishment of SMS System: The SMS system, which was used in previous years, has been abolished. The decision to discontinue this system was announced by Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang last year, with the intention of implementing a more effective and free-of-charge system.
New Result Access System: Candidates will need to visit the KNEC website, navigate to the KCSE 2023 section, and enter their index numbers and names as per their registration data.
System Reliability Assurance: Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu assured candidates that the ministry has worked with engineers and experts to ensure the reliability of the website.
The aim is to prevent inconveniences that may have occurred in the past.
Results Distribution: The council will dispatch results to sub-county education officers for distribution to examination centers.
New Grading System: The 2023 KCSE introduces a new grading system. Only two mandatory subjects, Mathematics and one language (English, Kiswahili, or Kenyan Sign Language), will be used to compute the mean grade.
Examiners will select the five best-performed subjects from a candidate, eliminating the previous grading system that had five mandatory subjects across three cluster groups.
Changes from the Previous System: The previous 8-4-4 system had five mandatory subjects across three cluster groups – Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, two sciences, and one humanity used to calculate the mean grade.
The new system aims to address perceived disadvantages faced by some learners under the previous system.
Overall, these changes reflect efforts to improve the efficiency and fairness of the examination and grading system in Kenya.

Thursday, December 28 2023: Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the results for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be disclosed in the second week of January 2024.
Machogu mentioned that the 903,260 students who took their final secondary school exams in November 2023 will learn about their outcomes in mid-January, coinciding with the enrollment of 1.4 million 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination candidates into secondary schools.
As per the 2024 education calendar, the Form One students are expected to commence classes at their new institutions on January 15, 2024.
CS Machogu assured that the marking process is complete, and the current focus is on compiling, verifying, and validating the marks to ensure the release of accurate and credible results.
It’s noteworthy that the 903,260 KCSE candidates will benefit from a new grading system designed to boost university admissions. This revamped grading structure was introduced in August.

KCSE Results 2018 Cheating cases in exams
This year there was no leakage of exams as it was in 2016 and 2017. However there were few incidences of early exposure of the exams. The culprits have been dealt with in accordance with the law.
The results of 100 candidates were also cancelled due to exam malpractices. Also the results of some centers were withheld pending further investigations.
101 mobile phones were confiscated during the exams from the candidates and four candidates were deregistered for impersonation.
Education CS Amina Mohammed said that 6 masterminds of exams cheating and examination fraud cartels who were on the run for the lat six years have now been arrested and charged.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia revealed that during the KCSE Exams 2018, there were 62 cases of non conformity and non compliance on the part of some teachers who are now under investigation. 5 of these teachers have already been interdicted and punished.
KCSE Performance 2017
This year in 2017 142 students attained an A an improvement by one student. In 2016 141 students scored an A . Also 2714 candidates scored A- (Minus) a decline from 2016’s 4,645 candidates.
CS Matiang’i also indicated that the number of students who attained the grades to join university declined from the 88,929 candidates in 2016 who qualified to join the Kenyan universities.
Mathematics and other 13 subjects performance improved in 2017.
Girls schools performed better than boys. Pangani Girls High School was the most improved school. Other Schools recognised were Maranda High School, Alliance High School and Kenya High Schools.
According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, 40 teachers participated in exam irregularities, and will be dealt with according to the law.
Any private school that hires a deregistered teacher will be automatically deregistered.
According to CS Matiang’i, the results followed the normal performance curve.
According to KNEC Chairman Prof. George Magoha and CS Matiang’i, early exam exposure before the exam time became a major cause of this year’s exam irregularities.
The ministry of Education has this year withheld the results of ten schools pending investigations and the outcome of the investigations will be out by the 18th January, 2018. One of the school is St Theresa Girls Senior School, Naivasha that was deregistered in November, 2017 over exam irregularities.
In another school in a school in Rift Valley fishy activities were observed in that school during the KCSE Exams whereby almost all senior Government officials in the Ministry of Education and Interior visited it. The problems there were so strange that the public school principal hid phones that were confiscated in the exam room in a water bucket.
These exams that were sat this year have been marked as one of the most credible since the tight rules and security that were put in place by the Education CS Fred Matiang’i and the KNEC Chair former University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Prof George Magoha.
