Kembi Gitura Profile
Mr. Gitura full name is James Kembi Gitura. He was born on 21 November 1953 in Githaga village, Muranga County. He is a Kenyan politician who has been Deputy Speaker of the Kenyan Senate since 2013.
Gitura’s Education Background
Kembi attended AC Forthall Primary School in Muranga Town. It was renamed to Mbiri Primary School.
Mr. Gitura attended Muranga High School and later Nyeri High School for his A-level education. From 1974 to 1977 he joined The University of Nairobi for his Undergraduate law course.
Kembi Gitura Political Career
Mr. Gitura opened his Law firm Kembi-Gitura & Co Advocates. Apart from the law career Kembi has served in these other capacities.
- Member of Parliament representing Kiharu Constituency between 2003 and 2007 under the NARC Party
- Assistant Minister of Agriculture in 2006
- Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs between 2006 and 2007
- Kenyan Ambassador in Belgium and European Union in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2009 and 2012
- Senator representing Murang’a County from 2013 to 2017 under the TNA Party of the Jubilee Coalition.
- The Deputy Speaker of the Senate in Kenya between 2013 and 2017
After winning a seat in the Senate, Gitura was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Senate on 28 March 2013. He received 39 votes.
Muranga Governor Aspirant
Mr. Gitura has put a spirited fight to become the Muranga County governor after the 2017 general elections. He wants to dislodge the current governor Mwangi wa Iria.
Only time will tell on whether his bid will be successful or not.
Kembi Gitura family, wife, Children
Mr. James Kembi is married with three grown-up children. However he was embroiled in a legal battle from a paternity case filed in the court against him by one Roy Kiarie who wanted to accept as one of Kembi’s sons.
Roy had requested for a DNA test to be done to ascertain that Kembi was indeed his biological father. Justice David Majanja dismissed the application in 2013. Kembi filed an objection to Roy Kiarie’s constitutional application seeking orders to compel the senator to accept him as his son.
Kembi argued that Roy was an adult, 41 years as at 2013, and had his own life to live.
Kiarie alleges that the Senator had a relationship with his mother Rachel Njeri Kiarie resulting in his birth.
