Gideon Mung’aro rejoins ODM and CORD Coalition
In February 2016 Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro on called ODM party leader Raila Odinga begging for forgiveness for leaving the party. Gideon Mung’aro had been giving indications that he no longer owed allegiance to ODM by walking around with DP Samuel Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta and pledging support for the Jubilee Party Alliance and Philip Charo for the Malindi by-election.
ODM reacted to this by demoting him as the opposition chief whip, stripping him off of his house committee membership and sending Mung’aro an official letter to show cause why disciplinary actions shouldn’t be taken upon him as far as the Section 14(4) of the Political Parties Act is concerned.
Sources close to the MP revealed that Mung’aro pledged Raila to take him back as leaving ODM would be suicidal for his political career in Coast province. Mung’aro further explained that his move to “support” Jubilee was out of desperation and circumstances as Jubilee had offered good money and were willing to pay off all his outstanding loans that were now weighing up on him.
Raila didn’t seem really convinced with the excuses but asked to be given time to consult the entire ODM fraternity. He however asked Gideon Mung’aro to lay low and wait for the verdict. Our efforts to reach The MP’s desk were fruitless as he’s laying low to waiting for his fate.
In march 2016, Kilifi North MP Gideon Maitha Mung’aro was replaced by Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga as the chairman of the Coast Parliamentary Group. The groups is made up 33 lawmakers from the six counties in the region
