Naomi Shaban full name is Dr. Naomi Namisi Shaban. She was born on 9th September, 1963 in Taita Taveta County, Kenya.
She is the MP for Taveta Constituency in Taita Taveta County having been elected to the 11th Parliament on a TNA (The National Alliance) Party ticket in the Jubilee Coalition.
Naomi Shaban Education
Naomi Namisi Shaban attended Mahoo Primary School between 1969 and 1975. She proceeded to Bura Girls High School from 1976 to 1979 for her O-level education. Thereafter from 1980 to 1981 she joined Butere Girls’ High School for her A-level education.
From 1983 to 1988 she joined the University of Nairobi for her Dental Surgery Degree.
Naomi Shaban Medical Career
From 1988 to 1989 Dr. Naomi Namisi Shaban was an intern in the Dental Office II at Kenyatta National Hospital.
From 1989 to 1990 she was a full Dental Officer I at Kenyatta National Hospital.
From Nov. 1990 to 1995 she was a Dental Officer I at Kajiado Hospital. In 1995 she became a senior Dental Officer in the same hospital but immediately went into private dental practice until 2002.
Naomi Shaban Colitical Career
Naomi Shaban ventured into politics in 2002 when she vied and won the Taveta Constituency Parliamentary seat on a KANU ticket.
From 2003 to 2007 she was the Kenya Branch Representative of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. She has also been a member of Kenya Women Parliamentary Association since 2003.
In 2007 she won again the Taveta seat on a KANU Ticket and in 2008 she was appointed to President Kibaki Cabinet as Minister for Special Programmes until 2010 when she was transferred to the Ministry of Gender & Children Affairs until 2013.
In 2010 Naomi Namisi Shaban was implicated in the Maize scandal where the a report faulted ‘over-sale’ of Strategic Grain Reserve in excess of 277, 000 bags and the allocation of subsidised maize to well-connected brokers who sold their bulk to millers at exorbitant profits. The scheme caused prices of maize flour to shoot up, beyond the reach of the poor.
In 2013 she retained the Taveta seat on a TNA Party ticket.
In the 11th Parliament, she is the Deputy Leader of Majority Party in the National Assembly of Kenya. She is a member of Public Accounts Committee, Parliamentary Committee on Appointments, House Business Committee, Catering and Health Club Committee.
